Free Fire MAX has 67 characters. Two of them, Primis and Nulla, are the free starters with no skill, and A-Patroa has no skill of her own but unlocks an extra skill slot. The other 64 each give one skill: 24 are active skills you trigger with a button, and 40 are passive skills that work by themselves. The newest character is Ray, added in the OB53 update in April 2026; the two updates after that added no new character.
Below is the full list with each skill in one line, then how to unlock characters without wasting Diamonds. Exact percentages and seconds change with balance patches, so the character card in your game is where to read the current numbers.
The newest Free Fire MAX characters
| Character | Update | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Ray | OB53, April 2026 | Active |
| Morse | OB52, January 2026 | Active |
| Nero | OB51, October 2025 | Active |
| Rin | OB50, July 2025 | Passive |
The pattern is one new character every three months, with each big OB update. When no character arrives, Garena often reworks an old one instead, as it did with Kenta’s sword skill.

Characters with no skill
- Primis and Nulla: the default male and female characters every account starts with.
- A-Patroa: no skill of her own, but she unlocks an extra slot that can hold another skill you already own.
How to unlock Free Fire characters
- Free from leveling: Andrew, Kelly, Maxim and Paloma come as account level rewards.
- Gold: many older characters cost Gold, which you earn just by playing. If a character has a Gold price, never pay Diamonds for it.
- Diamonds: premium characters like Alok, Chrono, K and Dimitri. They often get a discount in the store, so wait for it.
- Events: some characters came free in anniversary or login events, or as top-up rewards: Kassie, Thiva, J.Biebs, Iris, Homer, Nairi and A-Patroa among them. Event characters sometimes come back.
Characters you unlock are on your account, so they show in both Free Fire and Free Fire MAX. No website can add a character by ID. Pages that promise it, like the skin generators by ID, cannot touch Garena’s servers.
Which characters to unlock first
Owning all 67 is not the goal. One strong active and three passives that work together is all a match uses. A good first set: Alok or Chrono as active, and Hayato, Moco and Kelly as passives, which can be bought with Gold or earned. When you are ready to build around one play style, the healing combo that keeps you alive is a good place to start. The skill slots themselves also need unlocking, so spend Gold on slots before buying a fifth character you will never equip.
